Suppliers of granules or mulches used in synthetic turf pitches, playgrounds or sports applications must comply with a new REACH restriction on polycyclic-aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH). Diisocyanates can make polyurethane products, such as rigid and flexible foams, coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers.
- Granules or mulches shall not be placed on the market for use as infill material in synthetic turf pitches or in loose form on playgrounds or in sport applications if they contain more than 20 mg/kg (0,002 % by weight) of the sum of all listed PAHs.
- Granules or mulches shall not be used as infill material in synthetic turf pitches or in loose form on playgrounds or in sport applications if they contain more than 20 mg/kg (0,002 % by weight) of the sum of all listed PAHs
- Granules or mulches placed on the market for use as infill material in synthetic turf pitches or in loose form on playgrounds or in sport applications shall be marked with a unique identification number of the batch.

Complying with REACH restrictions
Import, manufacture, placing on the market and use of any substance listed on the REACH Resticion List (Annex XVII) must comply with the relevant restriction terms. Affected stakeholders should;
- Confirm that a substance contained within their portfolio is listed in Annex XVII;
- Check that no derogation or exemption applies to their use; and
- Take action to comply with the terms of that restriction.
